Decorating Eggs and having fun with watercolors

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all my US readers and Bonne Fête des Mères to my French readers! :) Here's my last May Citrus Twist layout. It is based on a sketch from Page Drafts, one of my favorite sketch sources (I rotated the third sketch down this post). Easter was just around the corner and the colors of the "Sunkissed" kit and "This Way, That Way" embellishment kit went great with the photos of my kids decorating eggs (few and few each years :(, but that's another subject!). I also tried a new to me technique with watercolors and mists. Here's the result:

For the behind the scene story, I first placed my mixed alpha title on the background paper but found it very "blah". Then, I thought about the messiness resulting from egg dying and looked into my stash for matching mists and watercolors to replicate that look. Since I am new to using watercolors on pages, I first did quite a few tests on a piece of card stock:
I basically mixed paint or mist with lots of water and dabbed it on the paper with a paint brush. I quickly grabbed a straw to blow the excess paint into different directions. I can't tell you how much fun I had! When I got to what I wanted, I went and did the same thing in the area of my title (removing it first!):
I let it dry and replaced my title on top:

...and I love it! If you have not succumbed to the watercolor trend yet, I urge you to try! Don't be afraid, just test different things out. You might like it too! :)

Have a beautiful and crafty weekend!
