The 100 Day Project: Day 100/100!

Today marks the 100th day of #the100dayproject! If you finished, congratulations! If you didn't, don't stop and keep working, keep learning! I am here to share a bit more about my experience with #my100daysofstitches and embroidery now that I've successfully reached the end.

I talked about the challenge (and last year's) at the half way point in this previous post. I also shared the first three projects I had created by that time, two hoop projects and one sewing project:

I had purposefully left the door open to any kind of stitches when I started the challenge but I got totally engrossed into embroidery and that's all I did in the second half! After the minute work required by the Yumiko Higuchi pattern (in red above), I found the outline embroidery of these three mermaids relatively easy:

In the meantime, I discovered more and more talented artists on Instagram and found several patterns that I was dying to make. When I asked if a beginner could handle them, I usually got the answer that with patience and a willingness to learn, you can embroider anything. So I went ahead!

My next two projects were purchased as PDF patterns on Etsy. As with my very first project, I received detailed supply lists and stitching guides with each of them.
This LOVE one by BrynnandCo was challenging but at the same time I love it so much that all the efforts and frustrations were totally worth it! I undid and redid many stitches until I got it right. The satin stitch (which is the one used the most here) is notoriously difficult to master.

I am still currently working on my sixth project even though I was hoping to be done for day 100. I had transferred the previous patterns using a fabric pencil but for this one, I purchased a water soluble material that you can put into your printer and stick on your fabric (it's like this one but I found mine at Daiso!).
This pattern by Thread Folk is actually easier than it looks and is very forgiving. I'm doing it one color at a time and it is a bit of "Color by Number" or "Where's Waldo" fun! I'll make sure to share it again when I am done.

If you would like to learn:
1. It is not an expensive hobby to start. All you need is a hoop, needle, threads and fabric. I bought everything between Michael's and Joann's (with coupons of course).
2. I am self taught and you can too, thanks to You tube! Less with the last two projects, but I have watched and re-watched may videos showing the different stitches. Just look up the stitch you need to learn.
3. I love the fact that you can take projects anywhere with you (something I am not able to do with my paper crafting). I took one on vacation in a tiny little tote. You can embroider pool side or in the car...
4. I recommend you choose patterns that excite you. That is what will get you through the frustrations and the learning curve! You can find a lot of free patterns online but I liked buying mine on Etsy because they came with very helpful stitching guides.

I was a complete novice and each one of these designs taught me something different. I didn't realize it when I picked them but they turned out to be a great array of work style and stitches. I figured at the start that I could learn embroidery in 100 days and I believe I now have a pretty good grasp on it. I would call it a success :) Even better, I have developed a fondness for modern embroidery and will most likely continue to enjoy it!

It's the 10th on the month and I am once again joining Shimelle (and many others) in listing 10 things on any subject we choose. Shimelle has listed 10 things to pack for a crop and I will list 10 of my favorite Etsy finds. The last time I shared my favorites was over a year ago so I thought it was time for an update!

Etsy faves (October edition)

I haven't shared my latest favorites from Etsy and with the new house I have been spending quite a bit of time on the site (mostly window shopping!) so here's a new selection from my wish list :)

1.Hand stamped monthly tickets: they are so pretty and I have to have something scrap related in my selection! 2.Red Sea Fan print: I am thinking about a beachy theme for our living room... 3.Pebbles watercolor print: I simply love this and it would go perfectly with the grey trims around the house (and the beachy theme!) 4.Why I love Paris pillow: so cool and perfect after my last posts, I think I can make this! 5.Vintage Bike red pillow: Are you starting to see a red trend here?!! 6.Voyageur print by Blanca Gomez: I love Blanca's work and I have been eyeing this print even before our move. Oh, yes, it will make it to my wall...someday!

I hope you are feeling inspired (or just have the urge to shop like I do now!). This weekend, I am working with my October Transparent Touches kit (this one below) and I will share those pages sometimes next week.

Random finds and August kits

Today, I wanted to share with you a few things that sparked my interest while surfing the internet. Feel free to share your thoughts! In no particular order:
My latest Etsy finds: 1.Summer mini kit: it just makes me happy. 2.Lovely deco tape: I have used deco tape in my last 2 projects and I am loving it! 3.Summer garland placemats:I would love these on my table and I just LOVE everything in this store! 4. Hair bloom set: Totally smitten by this color combo, these would look pretty in anybody's hair!

I have never taken a class from Big Picture Scrapbooking but this might be the chance to give it a try. The Big Idea Festival (Aug 12-24) will feature 13 talented scrapbookers who will share 39 project ideas. Probably some great inspiration. It's free but you have to register here.

This other free event, "Journaling in your own words" from Elle's Studio, sounds very interesting too. I'll take anything that can help me in my journaling especially if it is free help from some very talented scrappers (Ali E., Lisa Dickinson, Stephanie Howell, Christine Middlecamp and many more). No need to register, just follow the blog.

And last but not least, because today is reveal day for the August Transparent Touches kits, check out the three options:
Kit #1: Fancy Pants-Rusted Sun
Kit #2: Fancy Pants-Like Father, Like Son
Kit #3: Bo Bunny-Paradise
Aren't they gorgeous (and packed!)?! You can go here if you are interested in ordering one (or more!) ~ Toodeloo!

2 cherries, 2 challenges, 1 card ;)

You might have already seen this card on the Shabby Chic Crafts blog yesterday but I wanted to link it to the two challenges that helped me create it. First I used the bonus sketch from 2Sketches4You and then, the mix of pink and green was inspired by the EtsyInspired Challenge #44 on the Heart Hugs Designs blog. It is my first time participating in the later and I really like her idea of using Etsy items as inspiration! The papers, including the sweet cherries, are from Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker (My Sweet Cherry Pie collection) and the journaling spot from Shabby Chic Crafts.

New Etsy favorites

Just wanted to share with you my updated favorites on Etsy and wish a wonderful Mother's Day to all the mothers who read me! I might have to buy myself a little something to celebrate ;)

My Etsy finds

Since I can not show you anything I have been busy creating these past few days, I have decided to share with you some of my current Etsy favorites. It is a lot of fun to do some window shopping to see all the cool (and not so cool!) things people are making, and if money grew on trees... well, here are some of the things I would splurge on:
Etsy: Your place to buy & sell all things handmade
And please do share your favorites with me if you have some!
